Part of the motivation to start this blog is to chronicle my experience trying out this new "diet": the 21 day fix. I have looked into so many "diets", including Weight Watchers (shout out to Jennifer Hudson who looks AMAZING), low carb, Adkins, personal activity trackers, and many more. I have realized that as a busy professional, I need something that is pretty simple: eat this, not that; here is how much of each type of food you can have; and color coding is my secret shame. So, the 21 day fix seems to fit those needs. I will blog a few times a week about the highlights and of course not-so-highlights of this program. Please remember: this is a lifestyle change, incorporating healthy eating, portion control, and exercise. Always consider consulting a nutritionist or doctor before you begin any program!
This program is a no-nonsense meal planning plan that incorporates working out each day, which as we all know, is not only physically good for you, it's mentally a must! Exercise increases serotonin production, which can help you lose that sad feeling every day! The more serotonin you have in your system, the happier you are.
There are a few ways you can do this program and be successful. If you visit the 21 day fix website, you can find a coach. That's how I found out about this program. My coach is Kristie Moses, based in Orlando, FL and she is amazing! She manages a Facebook group every cycle, so you can be accountable to others to maintain the program, through checking in a few times a week. For me, I was so bad about checking in, I realized I wasn't being a good group member, but I still work with Kristie 1 on 1 to ensure that I am properly executing this program.
Kristie also has a great Facebook page that provides motivation topics, workout routines for the busy professional, and different recipes that fit this plan. If you are interested in learning more or working with Kristie, I highly recommend!

21 Day Fix Overview
Pending on how much you are looking to lose, or what your goals are, you are given a specific calorie intake each day. Within that intake, you can have a specific number of color-coded containers of food. This is helpful because it takes the guess work out of how much you can eat, and of what category.
The trick with this nutrition program is to plan. This is a challenge for any busy person, so part of this blog will include posts with color coded meals for breakfast, snacks, lunch, and dinner. To be successful, I am going to have a "glossary" of options ready to go when I officially start next week.
While you are managing your nutrition plan, it's important to incorporate at least 30 minutes of exercise daily. When you purchase the program, you are given a DVD workout program that is very good. You should consider your actual habits and what you enjoy when you set yourself up in this program. For me, I get bored with working out easily, and am a tennis junkie at heart, so I am incorporating those aspects into my routine to ensure I am successful.
I tried this plan for one week back in January, and to my surprise and amazement, I lost 4 pounds in 1 week! My issue was staying true to the plan and turning it from a forced routine to a behavioral change. In order to be successful, you have to get through those tough moments, and remember: it's only 21 days. You can do it. (I am saying this to myself now in order to actually get through the first week of missing carbs!)
